The Moment It’s Begun

The Moment It’s Begun

There’s a man that I’d met in another day
Not so long ago…
in another place…
but he wouldn’t stay
When I asked him to sit just to talk a while
He walked away…
but I heard these words
through a tired smile

He said…

I’ve learned with time, young man
not to keep a given plan
The road of life we travel on
will turn each time it can
And if you’re wise, my son
you’ll turn each page that’s done
and live each day as it’s your last…
the moment it’s begun

I was young at the time and I couldn’t see
where the lesson was
in the words I heard
when he spoke to me
As the years came and went… they just passed me by
leaving me alone
with an empty heart
while I wondered why

But with age comes a time when a man will find
how his life’s been lost
to forgotten dreams
that he’s left behind
All the plans he had made but could never fill…
and the loves slipped away…
now forever gone
he’ll remember still

And now…

I’ve learned with time, young man
not to keep a given plan
The road of life we travel on
will turn each time it can
And if you’re wise, my son
you’ll turn each page that’s done
and live each day as it’s your last…
the moment it’s begun

Now you’re here asking me why I will not stay
But I hear the voice
of another man
that I’d met one day
Years’ve passed… but there’s still much I need to do
So I’ll move along…
but I’ll leave a gift
in these words to you

You see…

I’ve learned with time, young man
not to keep a given plan
The road of life we travel on
will turn each time it can
And if you’re wise, my son
you’ll turn each page that’s done
and live each day as it’s your last…
the moment it’s begun

…the moment it’s begun
